 Watch Out For Excess

Excessively eating until deluding the tongue,
overly embellishing ones body till flighty hearted,
pampering sensual desires so mind never stops playing,
cannot exhaust ones drunken delusion with pleasures.

Don't be excessive and your economics will benefit,
good physical and mental health will bear more fruits,
living guided by unblemished mindfulness and wisdom
leaves plenty of time for training in Dhamma lessons.

With wealth sufficient to invest in generous ventures,
while resisting the fashions of noisy aggression,
not wasting ones worldly wealth for mere nothings,
gives hours more cool and refreshed than spring water.

May we invite all our dear Buddhist friends
to be thrifty, knowing when enough is enough,
seeing clearly that excess causes every issue of suffering
— the ability to abstain from excess is pleasure enough.
